The Mexican Caribbean is Mexico’s most traveled resort destination, with more than 22 million tourists from more than 80 countries visiting each year. The Region has more than 500 hotels – with more than 160,000 rooms – and an average year around hotel occupancy is more than 80%. In addition, some five million cruise ship passengers and crew visit the port of Cozumel.

Data consumption is growing faster than many ever imagined, and it’s putting stress on old infrastructure that was not built to meet current demands. This is especially true in the Mexican Caribbean, which is underserved by incumbent providers.

The region has very limited Broadband, primarily served by slow DSL. Most download speeds at area resorts and hotels are less than 10 Mbps (at least 25 Mbps will be needed for 4K TV). In particular, travelers’ demand for fast, reliable Wi-Fi is greater than ever, with up to 94% citing reliable Wi-Fi as their most important amenity at a resort or hotel.
